Greening the future

Our vision

The high deforestation rate in Zambia adversely affects the local environment and population. Indigenous trees are cut for expanding agriculture and to produce charcoal, the main source of energy for a large share of the Zambian population. Deforestation precludes the provision of ecosystem services such as the protection of underground water reservoirs, the generation of healthy soil and the resilience of the local biosphere. The challenge is to invert the trend and rebuild Zambian indigenous forests and landscapes through participatory reforestation actions and initiatives. Also, as agriculture expansion is a major cause of deforestation, regenerative, sustainable agricultural practices need to be promoted among small, medium and large-scale farmers.
